COURSE CURRICULUM

The Quantity Surveying BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University provides a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional expertise required for a career in quantity surveying and the wider construction industry. In Year 1, students are introduced to the evolution of the built environment, development and construction economics, construction technology, property surveying, law for surveyors, and professional practice, with additional academic language support for international students. Year 2 advances these skills through modules on advanced construction technology, construction law, construction economics, measurement, contract administration and procedure, and business and professional development, continuing language support where needed. In Year 3, students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience through an optional work placement or to broaden their global perspective through a study abroad year, both of which enhance professional readiness and employability. The final year consolidates learning with advanced construction economics, advanced measurement, project management, and contractual and financial management, alongside a surveying dissertation that allows students to apply theory to practical, research-driven challenges. The program emphasizes analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making in professional contexts, preparing graduates to meet industry standards and pursue professional recognition. Through this structured progression, students develop the expertise necessary to contribute effectively to construction projects, manage financial and contractual responsibilities, and succeed in diverse roles within the built environment sector.
