COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physical Geography program is structured over four years, combining core learning, practical experience, and flexible study options. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through core modules covering physical environments, Earth system science, environmental challenges, and fieldwork, alongside developing academic and mapping skills. Year 2 advances this knowledge with core subjects such as Earth Observation and GIS, Applied Geosciences, and Research in Physical Geography, while offering optional modules like ecology, water resources, and past environments to allow some specialization. Year 3 provides valuable opportunities for professional and global experience, where students can choose a full-year or semester-based work placement or study abroad program, helping them apply their skills in real-world or international contexts. In the final year, students focus on independent research through a dissertation and further develop expertise by selecting from a range of optional modules, including geospatial applications, environmental data analysis, ecology, policy, and public health. Throughout the course, international and EU students may also receive academic language support. Overall, the program blends scientific knowledge, fieldwork, research, and practical experience to prepare students for careers in environmental and geographical fields.
