COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography BSc (Hons) course offers a comprehensive four-year structure that combines foundational knowledge, specialist study, and real-world experience. In Year 1, students develop a solid grounding in both human and physical geography, covering topics such as earth system science, environmental data analysis, fieldwork, and academic skills, preparing them for more advanced study. Year 2 focuses on physical geography and environmental processes, with core modules including earth observation and GIS, field applications, state of the planet, and research methods, alongside optional topics such as water resources, past environments, and sustainability, allowing students to tailor their interests. Year 3 provides valuable opportunities for professional or global experience through optional work placements or study abroad, either as a full year or a semester, helping students gain practical skills and broaden their perspectives. In Year 4, students complete a major dissertation, demonstrating independent research and analytical abilities, and choose from a variety of optional modules such as environmental data analysis, geospatial applications, public health, policy-making, and coastal and ocean studies. Academic language support is available throughout for international students. Overall, the course equips graduates with strong research, technical, and problem-solving skills for careers in environmental management, research, and policy.
