COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Computing BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University is a four-year program that develops strong technical, creative, and professional skills in computing and game development. In Year 1, students establish a solid foundation through modules in computational thinking, programming, computing fundamentals, data fundamentals, and an introduction to games development, alongside understanding the relationship between computers and society. International and EU students can also develop academic language skills. Year 2 builds on this knowledge with core modules in games design, games programming, and human-computer interaction, while offering a wide range of optional modules such as software architecture, computer vision, mobile and web app development, data visualization, and indie games studio, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Year 3 provides optional opportunities for a work placement or study abroad year, giving students valuable real-world or international experience. In Year 4, students consolidate their learning through advanced modules in 3D graphics programming, data security and governance, and games programming, alongside completing both individual and group computing projects. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and technical expertise, and prepares graduates for careers in games development, software engineering, and the wider digital technology industry.
