COURSE CURRICULUM

The Finance and Investment Management BSc (Hons) at Newcastle Business School is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of financial markets, investment strategies, and the broader business environment, while developing practical and professional skills required for a career in finance. In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge through modules in mathematics and statistics, accounting, economics, and finance in a global business context, along with financial decision-making, business and financial analysis, and career development, with optional language support for international and EU students. Year 2 deepens technical and professional expertise with modules covering financial markets and institutions, professional practice, econometrics, personal finance and wealth planning, derivatives and risk, and mathematics for economics and finance, alongside the option to gain international exposure through a study abroad semester. Year 3 emphasizes applied experience, offering options for a full-year work placement, study abroad, or blended placement semesters, allowing students to apply their learning in professional and international contexts while developing industry connections. In Year 4, students focus on advanced topics such as sustainable development, risk in financial institutions, and investment management, with the opportunity to complete a dissertation, management enquiry, or consultancy project. Across all years, the program combines analytical, quantitative, and practical skills, preparing graduates for successful careers in finance, investment, and related industries worldwide.
