COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Construction Management at Northumbria University is a four-year program designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to manage construction projects effectively. In the first year, students study core modules covering the construction industry and its management, construction technology, built asset management, land surveying, sustainable construction practices, and academic and professional skills, with academic language support available for international and EU students. This foundational year equips students with an understanding of construction processes, technical systems, and professional practices. The second year builds on this knowledge with advanced construction technology, contract administration and procedure, construction project management with BIM, building environmental science and services, commercial management, health, safety, and wellbeing, and employability skills, preparing students for both technical and managerial responsibilities. The third year offers optional work placement or study abroad opportunities, giving students practical experience, international exposure, and insight into real-world construction and engineering practices. In the final year, students focus on advanced construction management topics, including management of people, construction project management and BIM, data-centric construction and digitalisation, sustainable construction technology, and a substantial dissertation project. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, technical, problem-solving, and project management skills, preparing them for careers in construction management, project planning, and leadership roles within the construction and engineering sectors.
