COURSE CURRICULUM

The Building Surveying BSc (Hons) program is designed to provide a comprehensive education in surveying, combining technical, legal, and professional skills over four years. In Year 1, students study the evolution of the built environment, construction economics, construction technology, law for surveyors, property surveying, and professional practice, with academic language support offered for international and EU students. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules in design and specification, sustainable building technologies, planning and building legislation, contract administration and practice, building performance and pathology, and business and professional development, further enhancing practical and professional competence. Year 3 offers optional opportunities for a work placement or a study abroad year, allowing students to gain valuable industry experience and international exposure. In the final year, students focus on advanced professional and technical skills through modules such as the building advice centre, design and construction economics, heritage and conservation, and advanced building appraisal, alongside completing a substantial surveying dissertation. Academic language support continues where needed for international and EU students. Overall, the program integrates theoretical learning, practical application, and professional development, preparing students for a career as a Chartered Building Surveyor and equipping them to manage projects ranging from residential refurbishments to complex commercial developments while engaging with contemporary challenges in construction and property management.
