COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biological Sciences BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years to provide a comprehensive understanding of biological sciences, combining theoretical knowledge with practical and research experience. In Year 1, students develop a strong foundation in key areas such as cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, and plant and animal biology, alongside essential laboratory skills. Year 2 builds on this knowledge with core topics including biology of disease, molecular biology, and human metabolism, while offering a range of optional modules such as environmental biology, biotechnology, neuroscience, and bioinformatics, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests. A focus on bioscience research and analysis further strengthens critical thinking and investigative skills. In Year 3, students have the opportunity to undertake a study abroad or industrial placement year, gaining valuable international or professional experience that enhances employability. In the final year, students explore advanced topics such as molecular cell interactions, analytical techniques, and the societal impact of science, while completing a major research project. Optional modules provide further specialisation, preparing graduates for careers in biosciences, healthcare, research, or further postgraduate study.
