COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Management (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University provides a comprehensive four-year program, starting with a foundation year designed to develop essential academic and practical skills. Students explore innovations in sport, performance and exercise, contemporary issues, community engagement, and complete a foundation project to build a strong understanding of the field. In the first year, core modules cover academic and professional skills, research methods, fundamentals of sport management, sport marketing, finance and governance, and social issues in sport, with academic language support for international and EU students. The second year focuses on applying management knowledge and developing strategic skills through modules in research design, professional development, sport leadership, and strategic business planning, alongside optional modules such as digital marketing, analytics, physical activity, school sport, and the opportunity to study abroad. Year three offers optional full-year experiences through study abroad or a work placement in sport, providing real-world professional exposure. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a major undergraduate project, sport event management, and facility management, complemented by optional modules in global sport business, applied coaching, health and behaviour change, equity, diversity and inclusion, third sector sport management, and professional career development. The program combines theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and transferable skills to prepare graduates for diverse roles in the global sports industry.
