COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Real Estate Extended Degree at Northumbria University provides a structured pathway for developing the knowledge and professional skills necessary for a career in the real estate sector. The foundation year introduces students to the context of the built environment, building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, quantity surveying, and construction management, providing a broad understanding of the core principles underpinning the built environment. In year one, students progress to explore the evolution of the built environment, development and construction economics, construction technology, law for surveyors, property surveying, and professional practice, alongside academic language support for international and EU students. Year two expands this knowledge through modules on urban planning and development, applied valuation, property asset management, property agency and market research, real estate economics, and business and professional development, equipping students with both analytical and practical skills relevant to the sector. Year three offers optional opportunities for work placements or study abroad, providing professional experience and global exposure. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise through core modules in commercial real estate appraisal, real estate development, corporate real estate management, and real estate investment and finance, culminating in a substantial surveying dissertation. The program ensures graduates are prepared for professional roles in real estate management, valuation, investment, development, and related fields while supporting progression toward professional accreditation.
