COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) program is designed over four years to build strong foundational knowledge and advanced expertise in physics. The Foundation Year introduces essential topics such as mathematical methods, mechanics, electricity, algorithms, and basic calculus, preparing students for degree-level study. In Year 1, students explore core physics concepts including calculus, dynamics, waves, electricity, and the origins of the universe, while also developing research, analytical, and experimental skills. Year 2 advances this learning with more complex subjects such as space-time, electromagnetism, quantum physics, semiconductor physics, and energy systems, supported by advanced mathematics and integrated approaches to theory, computation, and experimentation. Year 3 offers flexibility through optional opportunities such as a full-year or semester-based work placement or study abroad, allowing students to gain practical experience or international exposure. In the final year, students focus on independent research through a major physics project and study advanced topics like quantum devices, photonics, and photovoltaics, with optional modules including fluid dynamics, dynamical systems, and space environments. Throughout the program, additional academic language support is available for international and EU students, ensuring effective communication and academic success.
