COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics with Astrophysics (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) program is structured over four years to develop a strong foundation in physics alongside specialised knowledge in astrophysics. The Foundation Year introduces key topics such as mathematical methods, mechanics, electricity, algorithms, and basic calculus, preparing students for degree-level study. In Year 1, students build core knowledge in calculus, dynamics, waves, electricity, and the origins of the universe, while developing research and experimental skills. Year 2 advances this learning with more complex subjects including advanced mathematics, space-time, electromagnetism, quantum physics, semiconductor physics, and energy systems, combining theory, computation, and practical work. Year 3 offers flexibility through optional opportunities for a full-year or semester-based work placement or study abroad, enabling students to gain professional or international experience. In the final year, students focus on advanced physics and astrophysics topics such as cosmology, stellar evolution, and solar physics, alongside completing an individual research project. Core modules are complemented by optional subjects like fluid dynamics, dynamical systems, and space environment, allowing further specialisation. Throughout the program, additional academic language support is available for international and EU students, ensuring strong communication and academic performance.
