COURSE CURRICULUM

The Networks and Cyber Security (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University offers a comprehensive program that guides students from foundational learning to advanced expertise in computing and cybersecurity. The foundation year introduces personal, academic, and technical skills, digital technologies, information systems, beginner coding, digital society, and physical computing, providing a strong base for higher-level study. Year one builds on this foundation with modules in computational thinking, computing fundamentals, data, programming, networks and cybersecurity, and the social impact of computing, with academic language support for international and EU students. In year two, students deepen their core knowledge in human factors in cybersecurity, network switching and routing, and operating systems, while optional modules such as software architecture, computer vision, digital forensics, mobile and web development, IT service management, data visualization, and professional practice projects allow specialization. Years three and four focus on practical and advanced learning, including optional work placement or study abroad opportunities, advanced security, enterprise networks and security, data security and governance, and individual and group computing projects. Throughout the program, students combine theoretical understanding with hands-on experience, preparing them for careers in cybersecurity, network administration, software development, and other technology-focused fields, equipping them with both technical and professional skills required in a rapidly evolving digital environment.
