COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health and Social Care (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) is a four-year course that develops knowledge, practical skills, and professional understanding for careers in health and social care. The foundation year introduces key topics such as human development, professional values, and collaborative working, while helping students build essential study and practice skills. In Year 1, students gain a strong foundation in health and social care policy, workplace practice, academic research, and social justice, along with an understanding of the needs of children and young people in care settings. Year 2 focuses on applying this knowledge in real-world contexts, with modules covering research in practice, communication skills, public health, and international perspectives, as well as the care of older adults. Optional modules allow students to explore areas such as community health and creative approaches to helping. Year 3 offers valuable opportunities for professional or global experience through optional work placements or study abroad programs. In Year 4, students focus on advanced topics including leadership, management, safe practice, and policy analysis in integrated health and social care systems, alongside completing a major project. Academic language support is available for international students, and the course prepares graduates for diverse roles in health, social care, and community services.
