COURSE CURRICULUM

The Financial Mathematics BSc (Hons) with an extended degree offers a comprehensive and structured pathway to develop strong mathematical, analytical, and financial skills, preparing students for careers in investment, risk management, data analysis, and quantitative finance. The foundation year equips students with essential knowledge in physics, logic and algorithms, trigonometry and calculus, algebra and statistics, mechanics and energy, and mathematical modeling, providing a solid basis for advanced study. In Year 1, students build on these foundations with modules covering principles and theories of finance, business and financial analysis, calculus, computational mathematics, probability and statistics, and real analysis, combining financial understanding with core quantitative skills. Year 2 advances technical expertise and industry-relevant knowledge through financial markets and institutions, derivatives and risk, econometrics, further computational mathematics, differential equations, and statistical modeling and data visualization. Optional work placement or study abroad opportunities in Year 3 provide practical experience and global exposure, enhancing employability and professional insight. In the final year, students focus on applied financial mathematics, studying risk in financial institutions, investment management, data science, and completing a substantial project that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving.
