The Finance and Investment Management (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Newcastle Business School is a comprehensive program designed to develop both practical and analytical expertise for careers in finance, investment, and related sectors. The foundation year introduces essential skills and knowledge through modules in professional practice for accounting, finance, and economics, practical mathematics and statistics, navigating the financial world, ethics and social responsibility, business intelligence and analytics, and contemporary issues in accounting and finance, helping students gain confidence and a solid academic base. Year 1 expands on these foundations with studies in mathematics and statistics, global accounting, economics and finance, career preparation, finance principles and theories, business and financial analysis, and financial decision-making, alongside optional language support for international and EU students. Year 2 focuses on advanced technical and professional development, covering financial markets and institutions, professional practice, econometrics, personal finance and wealth planning, derivatives and risk, with the opportunity for a study abroad semester to gain international experience. Year 3 offers extended practical experience through optional full-year work placements, study abroad, or blended placement options, allowing students to apply their learning in professional contexts. Year 4 emphasizes specialized study in sustainable development, risk in financial institutions, investment management, and optional modules such as dissertations, management enquiries, or consultancy projects.
