COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Construction Management (Extended Degree) at Northumbria University is a four-year program designed to develop students’ technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence in managing construction projects. The foundation year introduces essential concepts of the built environment, including building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, quantity surveying, and construction management, providing a strong base for further study. In the first year, students progress to core modules covering the construction industry and its management, construction technology, built asset management, land surveying, sustainable construction practices, and academic and professional skills, with academic language support available for international and EU students. The second year deepens technical and management expertise through advanced construction technology, contract administration and procedure, construction project management with BIM, building environmental science and services, commercial management, and health, safety, and wellbeing, while employability modules prepare students for professional practice. The third year offers optional work placement or study abroad opportunities, providing practical experience and international exposure. The final year focuses on advanced construction management topics, including management of people, construction project management and BIM, data-centric construction and digitalisation, sustainable construction technology, and a substantial dissertation project. Across all four years, students develop project management, problem-solving, technical, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in construction management, project planning, and leadership roles within the construction and engineering sectors.
