COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Management (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University offers a structured progression from a foundation year through to final year study, combining core and optional modules to develop both academic and practical expertise in sport management. The foundation year introduces essential skills for studying sport, explores innovations in sport, examines contemporary issues, and provides insight into sport organisations and community engagement, while also including a foundation project. In the first year, students build on these skills through modules on academic and professional development, research methods, sport management fundamentals, sport marketing, finance, and governance, with additional academic language support for international and EU students. The second year focuses on applying knowledge in practical and strategic contexts, with modules covering research design, professional development, sport leadership, and strategic business planning, alongside optional modules such as digital marketing, analytics, physical activity, and study abroad opportunities. The final year consolidates learning with a substantial undergraduate project, sport event management, and facility management, complemented by optional modules in global sport business, applied coaching, health and behaviour change, equity, diversity and inclusion, third sector management, and career development. Across all years, students gain a combination of theoretical understanding, practical experience, and transferable skills to prepare them for diverse careers in the dynamic global sports industry.
