COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Real Estate Extended Degree at Northumbria University is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in the principles, practices, and professional skills required in the real estate sector. The foundation year introduces students to the context of the built environment, covering essential topics such as building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, quantity surveying, and construction management, establishing a strong base for subsequent studies. In year one, the program builds on this foundation with modules focused on the evolution of the built environment, development and construction economics, construction technology, law for surveyors, property surveying, and professional practice, alongside academic language support for international and EU students. Year two advances knowledge in urban planning and development, applied valuation, property asset management, property agency and market research, real estate economics, and business and professional development, ensuring students gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills. In the final year, students explore commercial real estate appraisal, real estate development, corporate real estate management, and real estate investment and finance, while completing a substantial surveying dissertation. Across all years, the course combines academic study with industry-relevant content, equipping graduates with the analytical, professional, and technical expertise necessary to pursue careers in real estate management, valuation, development, investment, and related fields, and preparing them for progression toward professional accreditation.
