COURSE CURRICULUM

The Quantity Surveying (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University provides a comprehensive program that develops the knowledge and skills required for managing the financial, legal, and contractual aspects of construction projects. The foundation year introduces students to key concepts in the built environment, including building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, construction management, and quantity surveying, providing a strong base for further study. Year 1 focuses on core principles such as the evolution of the built environment, construction technology, development and construction economics, property surveying, professional practice, and law for surveyors, with academic language support offered to international students. In Year 2, students advance their understanding of construction through modules in advanced construction technology, construction law, construction economics, measurement, contract administration and procedure, and business and professional development, further developing practical and analytical skills. Year 3 consolidates learning with advanced modules in construction economics, advanced measurement, project management, contractual and financial management, and a surveying dissertation, allowing students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical and research-focused projects.
