COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physiotherapy (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) program is structured to develop professional knowledge, practical skills, and clinical experience over four years. The Foundation Year introduces key concepts such as professional values, study skills, human development, and collaborative working, preparing students for healthcare education. In Year 1, students build a strong scientific foundation through modules in musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory, and neurological anatomy and physiology, alongside learning the basics of physiotherapy practice and completing their first clinical placement. Academic and professional skills are also developed during this stage. Year 2 focuses on applying knowledge to practice, with modules covering assessment and management of movement, acute conditions, and long-term health issues. Students continue to gain hands-on experience through a second placement and study research design, analysis, and the role of physical activity in health. In the final year, students further refine their clinical and professional skills through advanced modules such as clinical reasoning, physiotherapy across the life course, and leadership preparation, alongside a third placement. They also complete a major research project. Throughout the course, international and EU students may receive additional academic language support, ensuring effective communication and professional readiness in healthcare settings.
