COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) program is structured to build strong foundations and progressively develop advanced knowledge and skills in physics. The Foundation Year introduces essential concepts in mathematics, mechanics, electricity, and algorithms, preparing students for degree-level study. In Year 1, students focus on core areas such as calculus, dynamics, waves, electricity, and the fundamentals of the universe, while also developing research, analytical, and experimental skills through practical work. Year 2 deepens understanding with more advanced topics, including space-time, electromagnetism, quantum physics, semiconductor physics, and energy systems, supported by higher-level mathematics and integrated theory, computation, and experimentation. In the final year, students specialise further through a mix of core and optional modules. They undertake an individual research project, while studying advanced subjects such as quantum devices, photonics, and photovoltaics. Optional modules like fluid dynamics, dynamical systems, and space environment allow students to tailor their interests. Throughout the course, international and EU students can receive additional academic language support. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and research skills, preparing graduates for careers in science, technology, and related industries or further academic study.
