COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics with Astrophysics (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) program is structured to build a strong foundation in physics while introducing specialised knowledge in astrophysics. The Foundation Year prepares students with essential topics such as mathematical methods, mechanics, electricity, algorithms, and basic calculus. In Year 1, students develop core understanding through modules in calculus, dynamics, waves, electricity, and the origins of the universe, alongside practical skills in research and experimentation. Year 2 advances this knowledge with more complex subjects including advanced mathematics, space-time, electromagnetism, quantum physics, semiconductor physics, and energy systems, integrating theoretical and practical approaches. In the final year, students focus on both advanced physics and astrophysics topics, including cosmology, stellar evolution, and solar physics, while also completing an individual research project. Core modules such as quantum devices are complemented by optional subjects like fluid dynamics, dynamical systems, and space environment, allowing students to tailor their learning. Throughout the program, international and EU students may receive additional academic language support. Overall, the course combines fundamental physics, specialised astrophysics, and research experience, preparing graduates for careers in the space sector, science, and technology or further academic study.
