COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health and Social Care (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) course is structured to develop a strong understanding of professional practice, policy, and real-world issues in health and social care. The foundation year introduces key concepts such as human development, professional values, and collaborative working, while building essential study and practical skills. In Year 1, students gain a solid foundation in health and social care policy, workplace practice, academic research, and social justice, alongside exploring the needs of children and young people within care systems. Year 2 focuses on applying knowledge in practice, with modules covering research, communication skills, public health, and international perspectives on health and social care. Students also examine the needs of older people and can choose optional topics such as community health or creative helping approaches to tailor their learning. In Year 3, the course emphasizes leadership, management, and effective practice in integrated health and social care settings. Students study policy changes, healthcare interventions, and safe professional practice, while completing a major project that demonstrates their research and analytical skills. Academic language support is available throughout for international students. Overall, the course prepares graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional understanding needed for careers in health, social care, and community services.
