COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Computing (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University provides a comprehensive pathway to develop technical, creative, and professional skills in computing and game development. The foundation year introduces essential concepts such as digital technologies, information systems, basic programming, physical computing, and the role of technology in society, alongside personal and academic skill development. In Year 1, students build a strong computing foundation through modules in computational thinking, programming, data fundamentals, computing fundamentals, and an introduction to games development, while also exploring the relationship between computers and society. International and EU students can also develop academic language skills. Year 2 allows students to deepen their expertise with core modules in games design, games programming, and human-computer interaction, alongside a wide range of optional modules such as software architecture, computer vision, mobile and web app development, data visualization, and indie game development. This flexibility enables students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. In Year 3, students consolidate their knowledge through advanced modules in 3D graphics programming, data security and governance, and games programming, as well as completing individual and group computing projects. The program combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and real-world application, preparing graduates for careers in games development, software engineering, and digital technology industries.
