COURSE CURRICULUM

The Financial Mathematics BSc (Hons) with an extended degree provides a rigorous foundation in mathematics and finance, combining theoretical knowledge with practical applications to prepare students for careers in investment, risk management, financial analysis, and related fields. The foundation year introduces essential mathematical and scientific skills, including applications of physics, logic and algorithms, trigonometry, calculus, algebra, statistics, mechanics, energy, and modeling, ensuring students are well-prepared for the demands of higher-level study. In Year 1, students develop core mathematical and finance skills through modules in calculus, computational mathematics, probability and statistics, real analysis, and business and financial analysis, alongside principles and theories of finance. Year 2 expands on these concepts, covering financial markets and institutions, derivatives and risk, econometrics, advanced computational mathematics, differential equations, and statistical modeling and data visualization, providing both technical expertise and industry-relevant analytical skills. In the final year, students focus on applied financial mathematics, studying risk in financial institutions, investment management, and data science, culminating in a comprehensive project in financial mathematics that integrates theoretical understanding with practical problem-solving. Across the course, students gain strong quantitative, analytical, and computational abilities, preparing them for professional careers or further academic study in finance, mathematics, or quantitative research, and equipping them to tackle complex financial and mathematical challenges in a rapidly evolving global market.
