COURSE CURRICULUM

The Finance and Investment Management (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) at Newcastle Business School is a four-year program designed to develop practical, analytical, and professional skills for careers in finance, investment, and related sectors. The foundation year introduces essential knowledge in professional practice for accounting, finance, and economics, practical mathematics and statistics, navigating financial systems, ethics and social responsibility, business intelligence, and contemporary industry issues, helping students build confidence and core skills. Year 1 expands on this foundation with modules in mathematics and statistics, accounting, economics and finance in a global business environment, careers preparation, finance principles and theories, business and financial analysis, and financial decision-making, with optional language support for international and EU students. Year 2 develops advanced technical and professional expertise, covering financial markets and institutions, professional practice in accounting, economics and finance, mathematics and statistics for economics, personal finance and wealth planning, derivatives and risk, and econometrics, alongside an optional study abroad semester for international exposure. In Year 3, students focus on specialized topics including sustainable development and responsible business, risk management in financial institutions, investment management, and can choose optional modules such as a dissertation, management enquiry, or an undergraduate consultancy project. The course emphasizes applied learning, industry engagement, and analytical skills, equipping graduates with the expertise, experience, and professional readiness to succeed in a competitive global financial environment.
