COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Construction Management (Extended Degree) at Northumbria University is a structured program designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to manage construction projects effectively. The foundation year introduces key concepts of the built environment, including building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, quantity surveying, and construction management, providing a solid base for advanced study. In the first year, students build on this foundation with modules covering the construction industry and its management, construction technology, built asset management, land surveying, sustainable construction practices, and academic and professional skills, with academic language support available for international and EU students. The second year focuses on advanced technical and management skills, including advanced construction technology, contract administration and procedure, construction project management with BIM, building environmental science and services, commercial management, health and safety, and employability skills, ensuring students gain both technical and professional competence. In the final year, students deepen their expertise through modules in management of people, advanced construction project management and BIM, data-centric construction and digitalisation, sustainable construction technology, and a substantial dissertation project. Across all years, the program develops critical thinking, project management, technical problem-solving, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in construction management, project planning, and the broader construction and engineering sectors, with the ability to lead sustainable, efficient, and innovative construction projects.
