COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science (Extended Degree) BSc (Hons) program is structured to provide a strong foundation and advanced understanding of biomedical science through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The foundation year introduces essential scientific and numeracy skills, alongside core topics in biology, chemistry, and digital literacy, helping students build confidence and laboratory competence. In Year 1, students develop fundamental knowledge in cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, and pathological sciences, supported by practical training. Year 2 deepens this understanding with specialised subjects such as microbiology and immunology, cellular and transfusion science, medical biochemistry, and molecular biology, while also strengthening research and analytical skills through bioscience research modules. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics including molecular cell interactions, pathology in practice, and analytical techniques, while completing a substantial research project that applies their knowledge to real-world biomedical challenges. Optional modules such as genomics, drug design and development, and focused biomedicine topics allow further specialisation based on individual interests. Overall, the program equips students with the scientific knowledge, laboratory expertise, and research skills required for careers in biomedical science, healthcare, or further academic study.
