The Quantity Surveying BSc (Hons) program at Northumbria University offers a structured curriculum that develops the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required for a successful career in quantity surveying and the wider construction industry. In Year 1, students gain a foundation in the evolution of the built environment, development and construction economics, construction technology, property surveying, law for surveyors, and professional practice, with academic language support provided for international students. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced construction technology, construction law, construction economics, measurement, contract administration and procedure, and business and professional development, further enhancing practical, analytical, and managerial skills. Academic language support continues to be available for international students to ensure effective communication in professional and academic contexts. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced construction economics, advanced measurement, project management, and contractual and financial management, while completing a surveying dissertation that allows them to apply theory to practical, research-based challenges. The program emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making within professional contexts, ensuring graduates are equipped with the practical, technical, and analytical capabilities demanded by the construction and property sectors. Through this progression, students develop the expertise necessary to meet industry standards and pursue professional recognition, including alignment with the requirements of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
