COURSE CURRICULUM

The Professional Policing BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years to develop students’ knowledge and skills in law enforcement and criminal justice. In Year 1, students gain a strong foundation in policing through modules such as Effective Police Investigation, Introduction to Criminology and Policing, and Criminal Law and Procedure, alongside key topics like evidence-based policing, leadership, teamwork, and digital crime investigations. Year 2 builds on this foundation by exploring more complex issues, including the study of offenders and victims, professional standards, and police integrity, as well as enhancing research skills through Research Methods for Policing. Students also examine advanced topics such as digital forensics and public law, while critically assessing the effectiveness and challenges of evidence-based policing practices. In Year 3, students have greater flexibility to tailor their studies by choosing from a range of optional modules, including areas such as environmental crime, family law, and international criminal law. They also complete a major dissertation or work-based research project, allowing them to apply their knowledge in depth. Core modules continue to focus on professional police practice and advanced criminal procedures, ensuring students are well-prepared for future careers in policing and related fields.
