COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Physical Geography curriculum is structured across three years, progressively building knowledge and practical skills in understanding environmental systems. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through core modules such as Introduction to Physical Environments, Earth System Science, and Environmental Challenges from global to local scales. They also gain essential academic and practical skills, including fieldwork experience and techniques for measuring and mapping environmental systems, supported by personal development training. Year 2 deepens this understanding with core subjects like Earth Observation and GIS, Applied Geosciences, and Research in Physical Geography, alongside field-based applications. Students can tailor their studies through optional modules such as Fundamentals of Ecology, Water Resources, Past Environments, and the study of ice systems. In Year 3, the focus shifts toward advanced knowledge and independent research, highlighted by a major dissertation project. Students further specialise through a wide range of optional modules, including Advanced Geospatial Applications, Environmental Data Analysis, Coasts and Oceans, and Applied Ecology. Additional options explore policy, public health, and future environmental challenges. Throughout the course, international students may also receive language support, ensuring academic success and effective communication skills.
