COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing Science Registered Nurse (Adult) BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University provides a structured, three-year program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional competence required for safe and effective adult nursing practice. In the first year, students focus on foundational learning, including evidence-based practice, applied life and social sciences, professional development, and nursing skills such as assessment, communication, and interventions, with additional academic language support for international and EU students. The second year builds on this foundation, emphasizing person-centred care, complex care management, shared decision-making, and the development of advanced clinical and evidence-based nursing skills, allowing students to apply theory to increasingly challenging practice situations. Academic language support continues for international and EU students. In the third year, the program prepares students to transition into accountable practitioners, with a focus on leadership, teamwork, quality improvement, and advanced clinical skills aimed at enhancing patient safety and care quality. Across all years, students combine classroom-based learning with practical experiences, fostering critical thinking, professional judgment, and reflective practice. The program equips graduates to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s standards, practice safely and competently in adult nursing, and contribute meaningfully to patient care, healthcare teams, and complex clinical environments.
