COURSE CURRICULUM

The Networks and Cyber Security BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University offers a progressive curriculum that builds students’ knowledge and skills from foundational computing to advanced cybersecurity and network management. In the first year, students develop core competencies in computational thinking, programming, computing fundamentals, data analysis, networks and cybersecurity, and the social impact of computing, with additional academic language support for international and EU students. The second year deepens these technical skills through core modules in human factors in cybersecurity, network switching and routing, and operating systems, while offering a wide range of optional modules such as software architecture, computer vision, digital forensics, mobile and web development, IT service management, data visualization, and consultancy projects, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals. Year three emphasizes advanced cybersecurity and practical application, including modules in advanced security, enterprise networks and security, data security and governance, as well as both individual and group computing projects, which provide opportunities to consolidate knowledge and demonstrate professional competence. Throughout the program, students gain hands-on experience and develop problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills relevant to real-world scenarios. This combination of theoretical study and practical application prepares graduates for careers in cybersecurity, network administration, IT management, and related technology sectors, equipping them to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
