COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography BSc (Hons) course is structured to develop a strong understanding of physical geography and environmental systems, supported by practical and analytical skills. In Year 1, students gain a broad foundation through modules covering human geography, physical environments, earth system science, fieldwork, and environmental data analysis, alongside academic skills development. This year builds essential knowledge and prepares students for more advanced study. In Year 2, the focus shifts towards physical geography and environmental processes, with core modules such as earth observation and GIS, field applications, state of the planet, and research in physical geography. Students can also choose optional modules including water resources, past environments, climate-related topics, and sustainability, allowing them to tailor their learning. In Year 3, students undertake a major dissertation, applying independent research skills to a topic of their choice within geography or environmental science. They can also select from a range of optional modules such as advanced geospatial applications, environmental data analysis, public health, coasts and oceans, and policy-related studies. Academic language support is available throughout for international students. Overall, the course equips graduates with strong research, analytical, and fieldwork skills, preparing them for careers in environmental management, research, and policy.
