COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Computing BSc (Hons) at Northumbria University is structured over three years to develop strong technical, creative, and professional skills in computing and game development. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation in computational thinking, programming, computing fundamentals, and data fundamentals, alongside an introduction to games development and an understanding of the relationship between computers and society. International and EU students can also enhance their academic language skills. Year 2 allows students to deepen their knowledge with core modules in games design, games programming, and human-computer interaction, while also choosing from a wide range of optional modules such as software architecture, computer vision, mobile and web app development, data visualization, and indie games studio. These options enable students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals, while also developing professional and digital competencies. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through advanced modules in 3D graphics programming, data security and governance, and games programming, alongside completing both an individual computing project and a group project. The course combines theoretical understanding with practical application, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and technical expertise, and prepares graduates for careers in games development, software engineering, and the wider digital technology industry.
