COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Sociology BSc (Hons) program offers a structured progression through three years, combining core modules with optional topics that allow students to tailor their learning. In Year 1, students build a foundation in understanding crime, the criminal justice system, and social structures through modules such as Explaining Crime, The Criminal Justice System 1, Thinking Sociologically, and Social Problems: Myths and Realities, while developing practical research skills in Real World Research 1. Year 2 expands knowledge with core modules like Contemporary Issues in Criminality, The Criminal Justice System 2, Contemporary Social Theory, and Real World Research 2, alongside a wide selection of optional modules including Youth, Crime and Deviance, Crime and Media, Drugs, Crime and Society, and Sex and Gender in Society. Opportunities for study abroad, applied projects, and activism-based learning provide practical experience and global perspectives. In Year 3, students can specialize further with optional modules such as Contemporary Policing and Security, Mentally Disordered Offenders, Crime, Technology and Surveillance, Gender, Violence and Abuse, Social Harm, and Radical Ideas in Sociology, while completing substantial research through a dissertation or work experience project.
