COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Construction Management at Northumbria University is designed to develop students’ knowledge, technical skills, and professional competence in managing construction projects. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules covering the construction industry and its management, construction technology, built asset management, land surveying, sustainable construction practices, and academic and professional skills, with academic language support available for international and EU students. This year equips students with essential knowledge of construction processes, technical systems, and professional practices. The second year expands on this foundation with advanced construction technology, contract administration and procedure, construction project management with BIM, building environmental science and services, commercial management, health, safety, and wellbeing, and employability skills, ensuring students develop both technical and managerial expertise while preparing for professional practice. In the final year, students focus on higher-level construction management topics, including management of people, advanced project management and BIM, data-centric construction and digitalisation, sustainable construction technology, and a substantial dissertation project. Throughout the program, students develop analytical thinking, problem-solving, project management, and digital skills essential for modern construction management. Graduates are prepared for careers in construction project management, planning, and leadership roles, capable of delivering innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions in construction and engineering sectors.
