COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computing with Data Science and Big Data Technology at Northumbria University is a three-year program designed to provide students with a solid foundation in computing alongside specialised knowledge in data science, big data, and cloud-based analytics. In the first year, students study core modules including algorithms and programming fundamentals, foundations of computing technology, database design and implementation, data communications and networks, web design and development, and software engineering principles, with academic language support available for international students. This year establishes essential technical skills and a broad understanding of computing systems. The second year develops advanced knowledge in cloud computing technologies, cyber security, business systems and processes, digital and professional competence, and contemporary issues in computing, while offering optional internships, professional practice, and group consultancy projects at the London Campus for practical, real-world experience. The final year focuses on data science and analytics, big data analytics, machine learning on cloud platforms, technology strategy, leadership for sustainability, and a substantial undergraduate project, providing students with both technical expertise and project management skills. Throughout the program, students develop programming, analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills, preparing them for careers in data science, big data analytics, cloud computing, and related technology sectors, and enabling them to contribute to data-driven innovation and organisational success.
