COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry BSc (Hons) program is structured over three years to develop a strong understanding of both biological and chemical sciences, alongside practical laboratory and research skills. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation through modules in analytical chemistry, chemical structure, cell biology, genetics, and biological and medicinal chemistry, while also developing essential practical and professional laboratory skills. Year 2 advances this knowledge with more specialised topics such as molecular biology, human metabolism, bioinformatics, organic chemistry, and analytical methods, helping students strengthen their research and data analysis abilities. In the final year, students focus on advanced areas of biochemistry, including current topics in the field, natural product and medicinal chemistry, and advanced analytical techniques. Students also complete a major research project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real scientific investigations and develop independent research skills. Optional modules such as genomics and industrial biochemistry provide opportunities for further specialisation based on individual interests. Overall, the program offers a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and research training, preparing graduates for careers in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, food industries, and scientific research.
