COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering BEng (Hons) program provides a comprehensive education combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development to prepare students for careers in engineering. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules in engineering analytics, materials and manufacturing, applied engineering approaches, statics and dynamics, and thermodynamics, supported by academic language modules for international and EU students. The second year develops more advanced skills in mechanics and finite element analysis, mechanical engineering design, integrative engineering approaches, fluids and energy, and engineering project management, with optional preparation for placements and continued language support. In the third year, students can gain practical or international experience through a full-year work placement or a study abroad year, allowing them to apply knowledge in real-world or global contexts and enhance employability. The final year focuses on advanced engineering applications and professional development, with core modules in professional engineering futures and vibration and control, alongside optional modules in mechanics of continuous systems, sustainable energy systems, automation and mechatronics, and global design challenges. A substantial investigative project allows students to apply their technical skills to solve complex engineering problems. This combination of theoretical study, practical application, and professional experience equips graduates with the expertise, problem-solving ability, and global perspective needed for mechanical engineering careers and progression into management or further professional accreditation.
