COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive Engineering BEng (Hons) program is structured over four years to develop strong engineering knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation through modules such as engineering analytics, materials and manufacturing, statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, and applied engineering approaches, developing essential analytical and technical abilities. Year 2 advances this knowledge with more specialised topics, including mechanics and finite element analysis, engineering project management, and automotive-focused modules such as automotive engineering design and automotive fluids and energy, integrating theory with practical application. In Year 3, students have the opportunity to undertake a work placement year or study abroad, allowing them to gain valuable professional or international experience and enhance their employability. In the final year, students focus on advanced automotive engineering concepts, including vehicle dynamics and control, while completing a major investigative project that applies their learning to real-world problems. Optional modules such as automation and mechatronics, global design challenges, performance modelling, and vehicle aerodynamics provide opportunities for further specialisation. Overall, the program offers a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and professional development, preparing graduates for careers in automotive engineering and related industries.
