COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive Engineering (Extended Degree) BEng (Hons) program is structured over four years to develop strong engineering knowledge, practical skills, and industry readiness. The foundation year introduces key concepts such as engineering principles, systems, problem-solving, and mathematical methods, preparing students for degree-level study. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation in core engineering subjects, including engineering analytics, materials and manufacturing, statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, and applied engineering approaches, while also developing analytical and technical abilities. Year 2 advances this knowledge with more specialised modules such as mechanics and finite element analysis, engineering project management, automotive engineering design, and automotive fluids and energy, integrating both theoretical and practical learning. Year 3 provides flexible opportunities for professional and international experience through optional work placement or study abroad, enhancing employability and global perspective. In the final year, students focus on advanced automotive engineering topics, including vehicle dynamics and control, while completing a major investigative project that allows them to apply their skills to real-world challenges. Optional modules such as automation and mechatronics, global design challenges, performance modelling, and vehicle aerodynamics offer further specialisation. Overall, the program prepares students for careers in automotive engineering and related industries.
