COURSE CURRICULUM

The Automotive Engineering (Extended Degree) BEng (Hons) program is structured to develop strong engineering knowledge and practical skills across multiple stages. The foundation year introduces essential concepts such as engineering principles, problem-solving, systems, and mathematical methods, preparing students for advanced study. In Year 1, students build core engineering knowledge through modules in engineering analytics, materials and manufacturing, statics and dynamics, thermodynamics, and applied engineering approaches, alongside developing analytical and technical skills. Year 2 advances this foundation with more specialised topics, including mechanics and finite element analysis, engineering project management, automotive engineering design, and automotive fluids and energy, while also integrating broader engineering approaches. In Year 3, students focus on advanced automotive engineering concepts such as vehicle dynamics and control, while also completing a significant investigative project that allows them to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Optional modules, including automation and mechatronics, global design challenges, performance modelling, and vehicle aerodynamics, enable students to tailor their learning to specific interests. Throughout the program, academic language support is available for international and EU students. Overall, the course provides a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, practical application, and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in automotive engineering and related fields.
