COURSE CURRICULUM

The Tourism and Events Management BA (Hons) at Northumbria University is a four-year program that combines academic study with practical and professional experience, preparing students for careers in tourism, events, and related industries. In the first year, students gain a foundation in business and tourism, covering financial decision making, business analysis, marketing, tourism and events, business and society, and professional practice, with academic language support for international and EU students. The second year builds on this knowledge with modules in creativity and innovation, tourism, events and society, marketing for tourism and events, events design, planning and production, contemporary tourism management, and research skills, while students can also opt for a study abroad semester to gain international exposure. The third year provides flexible opportunities for professional development through a full-year work placement, study abroad, or blended placement options, allowing students to gain practical, real-world experience and develop global perspectives. In the final year, students consolidate their learning with core modules in culture, tourism and eventful cities, strategic management and entrepreneurship in tourism and events, global challenges and tourism futures, and risk and crisis management. Optional projects such as management enquiry, dissertation, or undergraduate consultancy enable further specialization. Throughout the program, students develop analytical, strategic, and professional skills, ensuring they are equipped to succeed in the competitive global tourism and events sector.
