COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Architecture BA (Hons) at Northumbria University is a comprehensive four-year program designed to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in interior architecture. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through introductory design projects, theory, and technology modules, while learning to explore design concepts and develop practical problem-solving abilities. Academic language support is available for international and EU students to enhance communication and understanding. The second year advances these skills with more complex interior architecture projects, complemented by theory and technology modules, allowing students to integrate creativity, contextual awareness, and technical knowledge. In the third year, students have the option to gain professional and global experience through a full-year work placement or study abroad, or shorter semester-based alternatives, providing opportunities to apply their learning in real-world and international contexts. The final year focuses on advanced studio projects alongside theory and technology modules, enabling students to produce sophisticated design solutions and a professional-level portfolio. Across all four years, the program emphasizes independent learning, critical thinking, and practical application, preparing students to address real-world challenges in interior architecture. By combining design-led studio work, theoretical study, and practical experience, the course equips graduates with the skills, creativity, and confidence required to pursue careers as interior architectural specialists or to continue professional and academic development.
