COURSE CURRICULUM

The History and American Studies BA (Hons) program is structured over four years, combining core knowledge with flexibility and practical opportunities. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules in American studies, European and US history, and global themes of power, culture, and ideology, alongside developing key research skills. Year 2 offers a wide range of optional modules, allowing students to explore topics such as American history, political ideologies, conflict, media, and cultural studies, while also completing an extended essay and core study on 1960s America. This year also supports career development and offers study abroad opportunities. Year 3 provides optional pathways for a full work placement or study abroad year, enabling students to gain valuable professional or international experience. In the final year, students specialise in areas such as environmental history, social movements, global conflicts, and media and cultural studies. They can choose to complete a dissertation or public history project, demonstrating advanced research and analytical skills. Throughout the course, academic language support is available for international students, ensuring strong communication and academic development alongside subject knowledge.
