COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design BA (Hons) course offers a four-year structure that develops creative, technical, and professional design skills through a combination of theory and practice. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation by studying design history, theory, and context alongside practical modules in design processes, methodology, and visual problem-solving. They also develop key typographic skills, focusing on form, composition, and layout, while exploring experimental design approaches. In Year 2, students advance their understanding by engaging with contemporary design issues, social impact, and collaborative practices. Modules such as graphic design for social change and responsible branding encourage students to apply their creativity to real-world challenges while considering ethical and sustainable approaches. Year 3 offers flexibility, allowing students to choose between creative studio work, industry placements, or study abroad opportunities, helping them gain valuable professional or international experience. In Year 4, the course focuses on independent and future-oriented practice, with students completing self-initiated projects that showcase their individual style and strengths. They also explore contemporary challenges and future directions in design, including specialist topics such as design for music. Academic language support is available for international students, and graduates leave with a strong portfolio and industry-ready skills.
