COURSE CURRICULUM

The Product Design (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) program is structured over five years, beginning with a foundation year that builds essential creative and technical skills through modules such as Design Studio Skills, Design Contexts, and Design Specialisms, alongside a Major Design Project and portfolio development. Year 1 introduces core product design knowledge, combining practical modules like Product Skills and Product Design 101 with theoretical subjects such as Design History and Theory and Design Factors, while encouraging experimentation through Interchange projects. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding by engaging with contemporary design challenges, focusing on user needs, interaction, and real-world applications through modules like Designing for a Complex World, Designing Interactions, and Going Live. Year 3 offers flexibility, allowing students to choose between creative studio practice, industry placements, or study abroad opportunities, helping them gain professional experience or broaden their global perspective. In the final year, students focus on advanced design practice, addressing future challenges through collaborative projects and completing a substantial Final Major Project, supported by critical reflection and evaluation. Throughout the course, optional academic language support is available for international students, ensuring an inclusive and comprehensive learning experience.
