COURSE CURRICULUM

The Interior Architecture (Extended Degree) BA (Hons) at Northumbria University is a four-year program designed to provide students with a structured and progressive learning experience, combining practical studio work with theoretical and technical knowledge. The foundation year introduces students to the context of the built environment, building pathology, building use, architectural design and technology, construction management, and a final integrated project, helping those who do not meet standard entry requirements to develop essential academic and practical skills. In the first year of the degree, students engage in introductory design projects, theory, and technology modules while developing core competencies in interior architecture through project-based learning. Academic language support is available for international and EU students. The second year advances these skills with larger studio projects, enhanced theory, and technology modules, encouraging students to integrate creative design with technical and contextual understanding. The third year offers optional work placements or study abroad opportunities, providing professional experience and global perspectives to support career readiness. In the final year, students focus on advanced interior architecture projects and specialized theory and technology modules, enabling them to develop sophisticated design solutions and technical proficiency. Throughout the program, students gain creative problem-solving, research, and communication skills, preparing them for careers as interior architectural professionals and offering a strong foundation for further study or professional practice.
